Watch any World of Warcraft cutscene and you know Blizzard has money to spend. One major way Diablo Immortal separates itself from the competition is with its production value. In that way, it reminds me of Apex Legends Mobile or League of Legends: Wild Rift. However, Diablo Immortal has a depth and confidence that comes from knowing it's the original article. There are many Diablo-esque games already on mobile, too. The Diablo formula has inspired everything from Path of Exile to Minecraft Dungeons. Fast travel and clear waypoints make it easy to always know where to go. I played for hours, but no individual task lasted too long, whether it involved clearing monsters from a graveyard or vanquishing a mad king’s ghost to tracking scorpion bandits across the desert. Diablo's appeared on portable machines before, thanks to Diablo III on Nintendo Switch, but Diablo Immortal feels specifically tuned for mobile devices. There’s no dodge roll like in Diablo III's console versions, but the control setup should feel familiar to mouse-and- keyboard players.Ĭombat isn’t the only thing that’s fast. Perhaps to compensate for this potential imprecision, Diablo Immortal's difficulty never becomes too challenging (if you don’t go above your level). Big projectile attacks, such as the Monk’s Wave strike or Necromancer’s Bone Spikes, occasionally veered off course as I lifted my finger to release them. The only time that the virtual touch screen controls proved a hinderance was during attacks that required me to hold and aim. The combat satisfied, between the visuals, sound effects, speed, and ways crunchy attacks collide with enemies. You eventually unlock the ability to view recommended builds, and, as “The General,” I focused on raising a skeleton army, ghostly sorcerers, and hulking golems to battle foes on my behalf. This time around, I opted for the Necromancer, and summoned allies from the dead.

I opted for the Monk during the original preview, and I spent my time punching, kicking, and activating various special moves that were basically flashier punches and kicks. The launch build includes six playable classes (Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard). Fortunately, Diablo Immortal’s combat feels so good you’ll never want to stop. Evil's forces wage a never-ending battle.
